Side Effects of Herbs

Most herbs have few, if any, mild side effects and little to no toxicity. The most common exceptions are herbs used to help eliminate parasites from the body. Not all, but some, have a toxic potential and should be taken as suggested. When properly used under the supervision of a licensed health care practitioner trained in the use of herbs, they present very little risk and much potential benefit. Herb potency varies widely by crop and processing methods, and individuals taking herbs show wide variation in response to the same dosage. If you are concerned about possible side effects, it is best to become informed about how any potential side effects and toxicity symptoms might present themselves. There is no specific dosage at which these signs may appear due to individual differences and other factors.

There is always the possibility of allergic responses to anything that comes into contact with the body. These reactions often cannot be predicted in advance with any accuracy, but they are statistically very rare with any herbs. If this is a concern, please consult your health care practitioner for personal advice.

A common mistake is the "more is better" approach. Do not exceed the recommended dosage on the bottle unless otherwise indicated by your practitioner.
